Meeting with the Bureau of Immigration, Cebu, on Student Visas

On 3 July 2025, Mr. Adeshina Edward Oloje, Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., met with Mr. Jamar M. Matugas, Officer-in-Charge of the Foreign Student Desk at the Bureau of Immigration, Cebu, to address ongoing visa-related challenges affecting Nigerian students in the city, particularly at Southwestern University.

Key concerns include prolonged processing delays arising from problems caused by the former Immigration Liaison Officer of Southwestern University, legal uncertainties, and procedural changes since April 2024.

The Embassy stressed the urgent need for streamlined processes and improved communication to prevent further academic disruption.

The Bureau expressed willingness to collaborate and reaffirmed its commitment to assist students through motions for reconsideration and other legal remedies.
