Meeting with Southwestern University, Cebu, on Student Concerns
On 3 July 2025, Mr. Adeshina Edward Oloje, Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., held a meeting with the officers of Southwestern University in Cebu, led by Ms. Maita Magalong, Vice President for Student Life.
The meeting addressed key concerns affecting Nigerian students, particularly the delayed issuance of Special Orders (SO) for graduates, visa renewal challenges, and the processing of Certificates of Eligibility for Admission to Medical Programs (CEAM).
Also discussed were financial concerns arising from unreceipted fee collections, and unresolved issues involving a former Immigration Liaison Officer of the University who allegedly misused visa fees in her custody and failed to process students’ visa requests submitted within the time frame permitted by the host country’s immigration laws.
The Embassy underscored the need for closer coordination to ensure that Nigerian students can continue their academic programmes without further administrative and financial obstacles. University officials expressed their openness to work collaboratively to resolve these concerns.
